A line that will make your head spin
Description
The Ellipse is one of the watches that allows Cartier to confirm its place as king of shaped watches. And yet, it is a form that we rarely see, and which has been rarely produced!
All the Cartier's DNA is present, both in the white lacquered dial with Roman numerals and in the almost round case with double godrons. Additionally, purists will notice the mention of "Paris" on the dial, indicating Parisian production at a time when Cartier had branches in Paris, London and New York. A model with a mechanical movement in the Cartier tradition.
Its small size gives it a lot of charm and allows it, despite its double godrons case, to be quite discreet. Unlike the Ellipse model with a round dial, this one will lie on your wrist and follow its lines.
Why did Françoise choose it?
Françoise could not pass up this model, which was both uncommon and often in very poor condition. If Françoise loves this watch so much, it is because it alone sums up the Cartier philosophy: matching designs from the past to the present, with elegance as the ultimate objective. A model from the 1980s that is still as current as ever, a watch that is neither quite round nor quite oval and very comfortable. A refined watch that will blend into any universe.
History
The 1970s were the starting point of a great watchmaking revival at Cartier. This was the appearance of the Must line of course, but also the dusting off of many case shapes designed (and for some marketed) since the beginning of the century. This Ellipse model, whose shape and size have been quite varied, responds perfectly to this trend of reconnecting with the historic designs of Cartier.
