"Eye of the Tiger"
Description
One of Françoise's treasures: a collector's item, a piece of history, a piece of know-how. A yellow gold and tiger's eye pendant watch with 6P mechanical movement.
Piaget's reputation in watchmaking is well established. Referred to as the "jeweler of watchmaking", Piaget embodies creativity and reliability. As early as the 1970s, the pendant watch was considered sculptural, crafted with as much care and attention as a work of art. The tiger's eye dial offers magnificent brown and gold tones, dancing with the light. A color that echoes the gold of the hands. A watch, a piece of jewelry, or both?
How to wear it?
This Piaget piece, which combines gold and hard “tiger’s eye” stone, is intended to be elegant and precious. In addition to the exceptionally virtuoso technique, this piece magnifies the woman who wears it. A precious ornament that follows the movements and lines of the neck, "designed as perfectly as the woman who wears it". One thing is certain: this pendant watch will not go unnoticed.
Why did Françoise choose it?
This exceptional piece bears witness to Piaget's most creative era. It illustrates the watchmaking know-how on its ultra-thin mechanical movement and the mastery of materials on the choice and work of the hard stone dial. These rare dials give the model all its character. Each stone is unique and each watch is just as much. Creativity, history and know-how illustrate this piece. It is for all of these reasons that we chose it.
History
“Always do better than necessary”: this is the motto of Maison Piaget, synonymous with creative innovation.
Piaget experienced a major revival in 1957 with a new extra-thin manual movement, the 9P. Here is another approach in watchmaking: a change in production and style where the dial becomes major.
Between the end of the 1950s and the end of the 1970s, the Piaget style reached its peak. A highly creative period where gold, the only material used for watches from 1957, and colours were in harmony. The dial became the main element of the creation, the one towards which all eyes should be drawn. Thus, hard stone was essential, letting its lively palette of colours, its nuances, its reflections, its personality vibrate: lapis lazuli, jade, tiger's eye, coral, turquoise, onyx, opal, etc. A palette of bright and nuanced colours. Watches with clean lines that let the colour speak. Jewel watches described as "haute-couture créations" (Journal de Genève, April 15th 1970).
